This may be the case if cellphones (the new alternative to landlines) were somehow garbage.

Most people are resistant or at least cautious of change, and generally speaking the most extreme cases are left behind to eventually fall prey to obsolescence. In business world, trying to stick with old technology or failing to innovate is a death sentence.

When it comes to the ICE vs EV debate though.. its more like choosing between an apple or pear. The two both provide the same function, but one is inferior or underdeveloped.

Imagine if recharging an EV was as quick as dispensing 20 gallons of gasoline, and replacing a battery was a couple hundred dollars every 50 thousand miles.. an EV would make a lot more sense, although there are still disadvantages such as the ICE getting more fuel economy/better performance as the tank is depleted (weight reduction). That fact is a physics problem, that can only be solved when the weight of batteries is <50% of a filled gasoline tank.

EV technology is still very much in its infancy. Those vehicles should be seen as toys for the wealthy to experiment with at this point. The average Joe should very much stick with an ICE vehicle for now and anyone who says otherwise is a fool.
