Who the fuck tosses out car batteries? You can return them to get some of your money back out of it.

From the post:

>Properly disposing of used car batteries is important. Whether lead-acid or newfangled lithium-ion, batteries contain toxic and potentially flammable chemicals that can leak if not handled properly. Three recent incidents around the country show that not everybody is aware of this fact. This past Friday, a City of Rio Bravo, Texas, garbage truck was damaged after a trash container full of car batteries was emptied into it, reports the Laredo Morning Times. A city official told the paper that the damage to the truck was “significant,” but did not go into the details, instead focusing on the need for a specialized mechanic to work on the truck in order to prepare residents for a potential disruption in trash pickups while the truck was out of service.

The author doesn't understand how acid works. It does dissolve steel by rusting it, and enough of those could damage the bin or other systems. There's also the problem of the hydrogen gas released during the oxidation process being flammable...

Biggest problem I could see is the acid getting into other things that could cause a more violent reaction, or even on people.

Agree, but muh climate disaster, batteries everywhere.... I remember we used to deep six them back in the 70's, fucking tie trot lines to them.

I know, but it's so easy to get rid of them correctly these days.

Yes but again that’s not the point. This is a bullshit article and you don’t fuck up a garbage truck that is fucking steel.
