Who the fuck tosses out car batteries? You can return them to get some of your money back out of it.

From the post:

>Properly disposing of used car batteries is important. Whether lead-acid or newfangled lithium-ion, batteries contain toxic and potentially flammable chemicals that can leak if not handled properly. Three recent incidents around the country show that not everybody is aware of this fact. This past Friday, a City of Rio Bravo, Texas, garbage truck was damaged after a trash container full of car batteries was emptied into it, reports the Laredo Morning Times. A city official told the paper that the damage to the truck was “significant,” but did not go into the details, instead focusing on the need for a specialized mechanic to work on the truck in order to prepare residents for a potential disruption in trash pickups while the truck was out of service.

So battery acid now fucking melts steel? Is this some kinda get fuel thing.

Fucking total nonsense. It rusts metal, but would take something far more costic than battery acid....this isn't fucking thermite.

Lead contamination would need to get corrected in a garage hauler.

How would you get lead contamination? The lead is encased. Acid would drain out.

Lead still not exposed.

The author doesn't understand how acid works. It does dissolve steel by rusting it, and enough of those could damage the bin or other systems. There's also the problem of the hydrogen gas released during the oxidation process being flammable...

Biggest problem I could see is the acid getting into other things that could cause a more violent reaction, or even on people.

Agree, but muh climate disaster, batteries everywhere.... I remember we used to deep six them back in the 70's, fucking tie trot lines to them.

I know, but it's so easy to get rid of them correctly these days.

Johnny was a chemist's son, but Johnny is no more. What Johnny thought was H2O, Was H2SO4.

Two men walk into a bar. One man orders H2O. The other says,"I'll have H2O, too." The second man dies.

Hydrogen Peroxide is my favorite peroxide.

[–] 1 pt

Peroxides are fun. That is if you can manage to not blow yourself up.

Niggers, spics and other trash are fucking lazy retards. There’s the reason.

Who is in the intersection of working on your own car, not knowing about core refund, and not following hazardous waste rules?

Going to guess they do not speak English or Spanish.

That's what I was wondering... Like. You can replace a battery. The store even tells you to bring the old one back to get the core refund and rather than do that you dump them all in the trash. Like.. What?

My guess is this is illegals scrapping cars (legally or illegally, take your pick) and disposing of the batteries.

Taking one battery to the parts store won't raise suspicions. I had an old battery in the garage, it needs to go. Taking 10? Yeah, that might be a little funny.

Story is about Rio Bravo Texas. Taconiggers...
