Used to work in a big old factory warehouse with airtubes. Was told that when they were operational, that was the holiday hooch delivery service.
Pneumatic tubes for interoffice communications used to be a huge thing up into the 60s. I remember visiting downtown businesses with Mom when I was a wee duck, and department stores used them for (I assume) confirmation of charge accounts, etc.
The holiday booze delivery aspect is tremendous!
I was also told that it was fun when it was just a bit here and there, but some people got some unpaid time off in the middle of January because of it.
I can only imagine a can or bottle breaking in the middle of the system.
