Although I think illegals should be tossed into a wood chipper, that's really not the issue.
This issue is that his dept. decided not to enforce a law. And he did.
The separation of powers between the feds and state and inter-state judicial, legislative, and executive branches is important.
The law makers may choose to pass laws that LEOs don't want to enforce.
The cop's agency made it clear and he ignored it.
If a police agency decided not to enforce the need for permits to carry a firearm (like we can do) and the criminal laws associated with it, I think most would be happy that a stray cop be punished.
I don't know if the punishment is excessive...if the policy made it clear that violating it would result in suspension then no. Not enough info to make a logical decision on this point,
I don't make conclusions based on feelings.
