Maybe it will come back as a P2P setup so it cannot be taken down easily. Hell a few small mirror servers to keep it going when the users are mostly gone would speed it up and provide storage for stuff that will be archived later on.

That would be sweet. A small part of me is holding out that all the secrecy might be because there is a new iteration coming, and not just because it's hard to admit publicly you're giving up.
I think they are taking it as a challenge to tech geeks to try and take down their site they'll make the site impossible to takedown or hard as fuck. I can't see 8chan rolling over and being submissive ever. These are insanely smart users that do not like to be told what to do or how to think so they'll spit in the face of the liberal tech groups and just do business as usual in a new way and laugh at the ones that pushed to take them down.
They are correct to fear the weaponized autistic trolls from the site. Only issue is the hydra reforms with a few more heads. The backlash attack from the /chans should be good.
