He had an AK ... cop's accuracy with guns suck.
They did not shoot him because he would have killed them is the likely reason.
Are you sure the cops said that or the news? From what I could see on the vid it looked like an AR of some sort but you can only see the back half of the gun so it's hard for me to tell cause I'm no expert. One thing I know though is the cops also where called into an active shooter they'd definitely be armed with what ever rifles they'd have in their car. AR15s, mini 14s, etc and already have bullet proof vest on. I think it's less likely the cops would be killed in that situation considering it's a whole gang of cops with pretty much equal equipment vs one guy.
I think that the call was concerning the guy just carrying , which is fine and legal.
Zero need for them to even talk to him. He should have told them to leave him alone and go away and cut off the "casual encounter".
