We non-lawyers would assume that the defense strategizes in relation to the charges, so it seems that adding or altering the charges mid-trial would give the prosecution an unfair advantage. Sort of bait and switch.

Im sure they want to try a plea bargain type deal where Kyle is "guilty" but sees no jail time. This way the left get their lamb, and the right is appeased

Kyle should agree to plead guilty to misdemeanor gun possession as a minor with all other charges dropped. Do 100 hours community service.

He killed a pedo. Thats community service right there

No, he definitely didn't break that law.

They argued that point for a while. It sounded like in that State it is Under 16. Kyle was 17 at that time.

Nope, that would be a 'Fed.Crime' as such,Kyle would never be allowed to own, purchase,or possess a weapon. Deal breaker.

Exactly what I came here to say. It seems like they'd need to bring all of the witnesses on again so defense could ask new questions to address the new charges.
