You have to know enough and care enough to do it right the first time, and every time, because it matters.

The "two man rule" always applies. Two sets of hands, two sets of eyeballs, two brains. Dead sure or dead. I don't give a shit if I just watched you clear and safe the piece before handing it to me, I will clear and safe it again myself, right there in front of you.

In fact, that's one of my tests for someone I don't know at the range. If I clear and safe a weapon and then hand it to them with the action open and they don't immediately check it for themselves, I may be dealing with an idiot. Or if they look butthurt if I recheck one they just handed me after clearing it, I may be dealing with an idiot. If they do check, then they are probably okay. And if they watch to see if I check, same. I've done this with complete strangers and looked up and made eye contact and it was like a secret vibe goes between us. They've smiled and said, "I was watching to see if you'd check." They usually turn out to be okay.

And speaking about gun laws, why hasn't he been charged yet with being in possession of a firearm while under a domestic protection order? Basic firearms safety rule and procedures aside, if they had simply obeyed the law that they themselves pushed for, the shooting never would have happened. They would have handed him a blank firing non-firearm prop gun because that's all he could legally handle. But, no. Laws like that only apply to the peasants, not the great, rich and famous Alec fucking Baldwin. Now look at you. Spit.
