The author mentions Baldwin should have checked the gun himself and treated it as fully loaded at all times.
I don't see anything in this article absolving him of it, only attempting explain how it happened and what could have been done to prevent it.
Unless some proof comes out that Baldwin knew it was loaded and intentionally fired it at the poor woman, then manslaughter is the correct charge and would make him guilty of a negligent firearm discharge and the resulting death, but he would not be guilty of murder.
