I'll be honest; I don't understand the poal outrage. They are to be referred to by last name, rather than as any of the above terms. Seems like a reasonable way to be specific about what happened and not biased. If the facts come out as we all understand them, this is a case of self defense regardless of what you call the guys who got shot. Now, the prosecution is TRYING to exclude evidence about cops handing out water and atta-boys to business defenders. That is BS and prosecution should not be allowed to exclude that. No report thus far that they will be successful at excluding evidence. The thing about an adversarial justice system is that prosecutors aren't charged with fairness. They're supposed to try to get a conviction, and dirty legal maneuvers are part of how they do that.
