In a kingdom of lies, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.
It's not that they lie. They know they're lying. They know that you know that they are lying. The point is to get you to knuckle under and agree with the lie, just to get along. Then you are complicit in the lie. Which means that you no longer have any moral ground to stand on to point and call them a liar. It also denies the very concept of objective truth.
Therefore all truth tellers must be punished for the simple act of telling the truth.

Our justice system encourages liars. I could probably count on one hand the number of people that walk into court and say "guilty your honor", It's a game of cat and mouse and everyone likes a good game, especially the lawyers. You tell your lawyer, I did it, the son of a bitch will tell you to deny it as long as he is getting paid. If you are Catholic, Confess your sins in private and admit them to no one else and on and on and on until everyone is a liar. Lies destroy the soul and the mind. every lie someone tells , they have to remember what they told to whom.. It destroys the mind's imagination. Be not responsible for someone else's lies, you are only responsible for your truths.
