Someone brought a real and loaded gun to a movie set, it somehow got mixed in with the props, the handler didn't check it properly before it was handed to Alec, and he pointed it at the head of someone who is not in the movie, and pulled the trigger. Mistakes were made. No big deal.

I'd say 99.999% you're being tongue in cheek with your original post, and this one here, but just to really hammer things home for the people saying "gun's fault", or "a accident", is somebody willing to list Gun Safety Rules #1 & #2 please.
