Precedent? We foolishly let the church run our national affairs for a few decades following independence. You wouldn’t believe the levels of censorship here even when I was a kid. I saw the exorcist in the cinema when it was first released in Ireland... in 1998! The life of Brian wasn’t even allowed to be shown because it was too blasphemous. The church don’t just have precedents when it comes to censorship, it’s very much their MO.
