The kids stopped buying american comics a bunch of years ago. They all switched over to manga.
There is one title of manga that sells more copies than the entire american comic industry together. I can't remember the name, I don't read this stuff any longer.
It has been interesting watching the commentary on the downard slide of the industry though, lot's of drama mostly enabled by pudgy feminized men that brought on board women, lesbians and trannies thinking diversity will bring in new audiences.
The comic companies are owned by larger companies that cannot shut them down because the optics would be wrong so they keep them around as loss leaders.

And you hit the nail on the head about woke comics in the US. The younger Japanese male population is castrated by society. So they live out their male fantasies through manga here. They don't want watered down pussy superheros and androgynous females that look like men.
