people prop up nurses like they do teachers. they want to act like nurses are basically doctors but too oppressed to make the jump. that's retarded. just like doctors, some of them are very smart, and some of them are really, really, really stupid. imo, the job is a lot less complicated than people let on. there's a metric fuck ton of shit to memorize, and it takes a particular skill and diligence to do so, but 99% of the work is the exact same thing day in day out. over time, even the black nurses are able to handle it without a doctor's oversight. on that odd 1%, it's a complete crapshoot whether anyone on staff has the ability to go above the routine. 99% of that last 1% are not going to result in a fatality even without treatment, so even if they fucking it up entirely, it's a pretty slim chance that anyone ever recognizes it, much less calls them out on it. i think the walkout nurses recognized this. they know how much of 'health science' is built on bullshit because they've been complicit with it for their entire careers. I'm not saying all nurses/doctors are stupid. I'm not saying that the job is easy. I'm not saying the job doesn't require reading a lot of shit. I'm saying it doesn't require a lot of critical thinking. it's not house md where every doctor is Sherlock Holmes. the doctors job is not figuring out puzzles, it's knowing which treatments will get him sued.
