I just checked the live cam at Long Beach port -- and the activity does appear light. Hmmmm. Here's the link:

I have been told by someone in the trucking industry that there are over 2500 trucks parked due to a failed emissions sensor that cannot be replaced. There are none left in the country to replace them with and the manufacturer for the replacements cannot get the materials to build new ones. Last he had heard the government was working with manufacturers to allow them to write a bypass for that sensor into a computer reflash. Not sure how true this is because I cant find any news on the subject, which incidentally lends credibility to his claim these days. Next time I see him I will try to find out more about which sensor it actually is.

No it’s new emission standards

All self created, the morons are running the docks with 500 rules and emission standards.

“Traditionally the ports have been served by Owner Operators,” Oakley says, who are non-union. But under AB-5, “California has now banned Owner Operators.” Just like the union longshoremen, union truckers work under a whole host of work rules that simply can’t accommodate crisis conditions like the ones in Los Angeles.

to shut down semi tractor rigs that were non-compliant with new California emission standards. [snip] In effect, what this 2020 determination and settlement created was an inability of half the nation’s truckers from picking up anything from the Port of LA or Port of Long Beach. Virtually all private owner operator trucks and half of the fleet trucks that are used for moving containers across the nation were shut out.

In an effort to offset the problem, transportation companies started using compliant trucks (low emission) to take the products to the California state line, where they could be transferred to non-compliant trucks who cannot enter California.   However, the scale of the problem creates an immediate bottleneck that builds over time. It doesn’t matter if the ports start working 24/7, they are only going to end up with even more containers waiting on a limited amount of available trucks.

Portland closed due to a strike they wouldn’t end for at least 6 months or so, the owner closed up shop and all the workers were fired and they were flabbergasted because the union told them to hold out even longer.

I think Seattle is still operating but not sure.

But Oregon Washington and California have or are passing those same emission laws. So we’ll need hubs outside the state for their “clean” trucks also.

Ahhh, see, this I could believe, especially in Cali.

I've heard the same thing, I've seen videos of service lots stuffed to the brim with big rigs waiting on like 1 sensor or emissions part, saying there was gonna be a huge shortage of transporters soon as a result.

This was 4 months ago.

Well my property developer in Florida cannot finish housing projects for reasons as small as a single kidding pane of glass not due for six months.

It's all breaking down. Only immediate fix is for the governmentd to collapse. (without regulations the property Dev could board up the window or use glass to a different standards or hand over to owners as is)
