Do Chesterton novels have bland characters in general, or is this one an anomaly? I've been meaning to read some of his works, any you would recommend?

sorry, that's the only one I read.

I recommend browsing a few reviews of his books on goodreads. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7014283.G_K_Chesterton

The best way is to select only the 2-star reviews, and see what people are complaining about. Click on the page of a book you are interested in, scroll down to "COMMUNITY REVIEWS", then just beneath that "More Filters". Click that, then click "2 star". Only the 2-star reviews will be shown. There's usually 10 to 100 of these, for most popular books.

Now, see what people are complaining about. It might be "It was too intense" or "they used the word "f*ck", oh golly", then it's no problem.

Hahah 'good reads hacks'. Very helpful, thank you. Well at least you informed me of one novel to not waste my time on!

That's the only book of his I read. After that, I'm not interested in reading any more of his. I mean, maybe his other books are fine - I don't know - but with so much else available, many lifetimes' of good books, if an author's book is shit I usually just avoid them from then on.
