Back in 1986 my wife had an accidental home birth and a relative helped us get her to the hospital. At the hospital the kept pressuring me to give the baby a name and since we hadn't even known what the sex was until the birth and my wife was a bit out of it I told them to wait. However I got a bit annoyed by the nurse pressuring me so by the time we were released for everyone to go home the baby still hadn't been named. For some reason even three days later she had no idea what to name the baby and was pressuring me just as the nurse had been doing at the hospital and I was now getting calls from the hospital to give the boy a name. I started wondering what would happen if parents refused to provide a name at all? It was an amusing thought but by week's end I did provide a name. I did get some amusement having hospital pencil pushers call me up to whine about not having a name to put on documents.

So, my thought is, what if the people making these birth certificates were never provided with a name to attach a SS number to? I innocently signed up for my SS number in 1975 at school. I was born in '59 and until then had no number.
