When someone says something stupid along those lines, I find it helpful to point out that most of us are more committed to science than a typical leftist or news junkie, who are usually obsessed with "scientists" - flawed humans with major bias and conflicts of interest, peddling lies that cannot be verified (yet are difficult to disprove).
