And just how long can you be placed on paid leave before they have to cut you loose or give in? Indefinitely?

They said "this (meaning administrative leave) won't last forever, so if you want to keep this job, get in compliance"

So no way of knowing

The employer hoping you'll fold. The unpaid administrative leave is costing them, depending on the contract. Are holidays still paid? Vacation? Is employer still paying for benefits? 401k matching? Those things could be costing your employer a pretty penny while the employer receives no benefit.
