The blame lays with people who started and maintained a war we shouldn't be involved in. The failure is not in failing to achieve success. It's in understanding what prioritizes dictate what is worth pursuing.

If you decide to be an astronaut by the end of next week, and you don't show up to your job trying to dedicate yourself to your goal, and by the end of the week you're not an astronaut, the mistake isn't that you suck and couldn't achieve your goal. It's that you were irresponsible and pursued something you should have never pursued in the first place.

So you're trying to train a foreign army. Day one: one of the senior recruits is a pedophile. So what you got to do is march this guy up front, stand him up put a bullet in his head. This is legal because he's under your command, he's guilty, and officers must have broad discretion to discipline their own men in theater.

But you can't do that because Rules of Engagement, cultural relativism, politicians and commanding officers that will try you for murder for doing your job.

So 20 years later it's time to leave and the army he spent two decades training is now full of recruits that were molested as children by General Akhbar Boyfucker.
