I'm loving watching the olympics.
- Use a VPN.
- Watch at CBC.CA (or other non NBC source), specifically one that provides raw live feeds.
- Watch without tape delay - watch live events.
- Watch without commercial, without drama, without political noise.
- Watch most matches without commentary, get to see the events as they unfold, get to listen into the time out huddles, etc.
- Watch 'European' sports only. Swimming, Volleyball, Sailing, Kayacking, etc. (Skip basketball, soccer, and 'run extra fast' brainless sports.)
It's all rather pleasurable. Great European/Asian athletes at their peak. Zero politics, zero 'woke', zero BS.
NBC can go fuck itself.
Let's be honest; none of these sports are interesting to watch. The only draws were nationalism and human potential. Between the high anti-nationalist sentiment, high inclusion of participants that gained citizenship after the beginning of their athletic careers, and a high number of transgender athletes, there is no interest to watch. No one ever was really interested in watching women throw hammers, sprint, or lift but they had reasons for watching. Those reasons are no longer reasonable.
Very astute analysis.
It really was about nationalism and showing that your genetic kind was better.
Now with athletes mixed from anywhere under flags of convenience its pointless.
I must disagree, but to each his own. I personally like being involved in outdoor activities and the sports I mentioned. So, it's fun for me to watch someone be world class in a sport that I just fumble around in. For me, this isn't about rooting for 'my team' (whatever that means), it's about seeing the limits of what humans can do in an activity that is both physically and mentally challenging.
Watching men larp as women is not the limits of of human achievement I have any interest in.
nah man you're forgetting the most important draw women in tight sports suits
You likely missed the CBC woman, during the pre-olympic show. She claimed that the Canadian Olympic commitee was further closing the gender inequality gap by sending a total of 370 athletes, 225 of those being women. Now I could have mis-heard or mis-interpretted the comment, but it certainly sounded like CBC Ministry of Truth double speak to me.
Oh, no doubt. CBC is it's own kind of trash.
Key point is the live feeds. NBC hides those live feeds but the other broadcasters still have the feeds up.
I haven't seen any "commentary" on the Olympics. I haven't seen any ceremony. It's better w/o it.
