Wikipedia made a yuuugge mistake in allowing almost anyone to edit their pages. Some pages are notorious for someone coming in and editing the 'slant' of a page one way, and then someone else coming along a few moments later to change the 'slant' back the other way. They don't have to vette everyone, just those that are editing biographies, politics, and philosophies, although when the Progressive/Socialists start insisting the even mathematics is 'racist', then the entire notion of an online encyclopedia is doomed. I myself am a registered editor for Wikipedia, but it's been years since I've done anything for them.
Oddly, in the beginning it worked well but soon turned into the situation you describe
