Only the Ruger Mini-14 Target will only accept .223.

All other variants accept both, with varying accuracy.

And the Mini-Thirty will take Russian AK47 ammunition.

I could be wrong, it's been a while since I read up on them. But I'm almost certain that the older "pencil" barrels are only chambered in .223.

i'd have to look into that. That could be the predecessor to the Target variant.

Lol, doubt it. The new ones are built with a much beefier barrel than the old ones. This is because shot-stringing was a serious issue as the barrels heated up during use. The single biggest complaint with the old ones was accuracy. It's one of the reasons the AR won out it popularity over the Mini. In spite of the high-reliability, battle-proven nature of the platform, Ruger absolutely screwed themselves with that crap barrel. Really no excuse for the number of DECADES that it took for them to finally take it back to the drawing board either.
