Easily the worst tippers, sending back prime rib repeatedly because it isn’t well done enough (and they don’t want an end cut), repeatedly sending back their half-finished Courvoisier because “there ain’t no alcohol in it”, so they end up getting a triple or quad for the price of a single AND they still will act like they aren’t happy, which they’ll use as a justification to stiff you on the tip.

Literally saw this the other day when a couple ordered a burger at a fancy seafood place and then sent it back half eaten, then complained about the drinks and sent them back, then got huffy with the owner about the new free drink.

I generally tip at least 20%. It has zero to do with skin color or gender. Those two items hold zero value for me. The thing that effects the tip amount the most for me is how long I have to sit and be thirsty.

Force me to tip 15% because you're a racist? Your servers will get only that. And your business won't get a repeat customer in me.

I don't mind dropping a $20 bill for a tip if she's kind and enthusiastic about doing her job and doing it right. If it's a dude, I might still drop a 20 if he doesn't mind engaging in some banter while also filling the previous criteria. Otherwise, it's just going to be a few bucks, whatever's in my wallet. And that's if, and only if, they remember to check back every ten minutes or so to see if my water needs to be refilled. That's like the bare minimum requirement.

So, I usually only tip around 16-18%. But I always tip cash.

Except when tips are mandatory. When a mandatory tip got slapped on my credit card charge, that's what I would pay, and on the card. And I'd mention that to the servers.

IDK exactly what happened but the couple of restaurants this happened at, the mandatory tip was gone by the time I went back there... ;-)
