My third tour of the sandbox we had a pick-up run a checkpoint, we gave pursuit but armored Hummers aren't known for speed, so Lt said fuck it go ahead and engage. My gunner lit it up with an M2, vehicle stopped, mission accomplished. When we got to the pick-up and started to pull the occupants out 2 were under 16, 3rd mid twenties. The older dude was barely alive, kids were dead. Bunch of IED material in the truck, grenades, suicide vests and propaganda material, clearly "bad" guys. No one felt good about anything that day, no usual post firefight banter, no one taking creative pics with the bodies, everyone was just quite.

Did what you had to and almost certainly saved the lives that those IED's would have claimed, but yeah, I don't imagine that was of much comfort to you. I'm sorry you had to go through that, bro.
