Microsoft to this day mostly makes money from selling their O.S. They only get away with this because lots of software only runs on Windows. In time open source will catch up and businesses/people will abandon Microsoft. I look forward to it.

They are making lots of money on the server end, I don't know why their clients won't use a Linux based solution instead?

`Linux mint is on par with Windows for ease of use. At this time as far as I'm aware there's no such server solution that is as easy. I've never ran my own server so I'm not an expert.

I have Mint, which is basically XP...I love it

Maybe for you, but most people aren't familiar with the Linux file system and installing simple programs can be a nightmare for most people. Apple is probably the easiest to use 'nix system, and now days likely easier to use than Windows.
