Show of force. That's all. It exists purely to prevent other people with guns from coming here on boats and planes and taking our shit.
The instinct to just take what someone who is completely weak is so ingrained in the psyche of our stupid lizard brains, that aggression against the weak is inevitable. It used to be "Hey, that tribe doesn't know how to use their spears to fight people- we do, and we have bows. They have a lot of women, food, and land... got some nice trees and a river... let's go take it. Any man who resits dies, let's go."
