And then they ended up using backups because the encryption took to long. This is what you get when you farm out your IT south america, india and spain.

Sounds like: 1. a reason to raise gas prices 2. A way to launder money 3. Another angle to poke a stick at the American people's side in order to help raise tensions.

They'll pass it on to the public that buys the gas

I guess that is sort of the nature of being the only guy with a pipeline. Although I don't think the public would notice 5 million amortized over X millions of gallons of gas, either.

5 million? Pay that shit. And get gud with your security.

I was 700 miles from home picking up a baby kitten for my wife when this happened. I was on less than a quarter tank and had already stopped at 10+ empty gas stations. I'm lucky I finally found one otherwise I would have ran on fumes to a petsmart then to a hotel. I'd still be in that hotel in NC right now trying to keep the kitten doing its business in the litter box.

What kind of special, magic kitten is this that you drive 700 miles to get it for your wife?

Unfortunately, I get the impression they will do the former (well did) and not do the latter. I have opinions about corpsec, that no on is interested in.

In all those shitty action movies I always thought Hollywood needed better technical consultants because no idiot would put a nuclear plant or a power grid switching system or other critical and dangerous infrastructure items onto the Internet. No amount of software firewalling would make such a connection secure. But look, niggers and women and nigger women are running things now, clutching their shiny little Affirmative Action degrees, so terrible decisions that no sane engineer or doctor or economist would sign off on just keep coming and coming. Like Lockdowns.

Someone got their freshly laundered payoff.

What happened to competent IT managing secure network architectures, ensuring firewalls were correctly configured, and executing disaster recovery plans swiftly and professionally?

It's not rocket appliances. Heads should roll.

I literally saw that they posted a job opening for a cyber security engineer this week. So, either heads did roll, or there's a CIO that's going to get it soon.

If it was six million Id say it was Mossad hackers.

"How much should we demand?" "How about six million?" "Too obvious. Make it 5"

And guess who they're going to "pass those savings onto"?
