Before even glancing at the article I am 100% convinced that the rifle was not loaded. Ammunition in a boot camp is the most carefully guarded and measured and monitored items on the planet. The government had lost several nukes over the years, but it has accounted for every bullet ever shipped to a boot camp.

And so it will remain unless Israel has an ammo shortage.

I've seen people make it back to the barracks with live rounds. They are convinced fairly quickly that those rounds need to wind up in what we called the amnesty box.

It's been 25 years since boot camp so things could be different now, but your statement is 99.9% spot on.
