Strangely, the article doesn't tell us.
It tells us it is what is and we're basically stuck with her until she ever decides to retire or they put her in the ground.
So are SCOTUS decisions on hold til then, or can they still render verdicts with one jew short?
They can and have in the past. So no hold ... and she'll likely vote anyway ... but even if she abstained it would be no big deal. The only problem that comes up when they're one short is if it's a tie. When that happens the judgement of the court that sent it to the Supremes stays put.
Nothing, they serve for life.
