The other side of the equation are labour laws. US labourers are constrained by minimum wage and other regulations which makes hiring them much more expensive and troublesome, especially for small businesses.

By contrast, illegals work outside of the law and can't complain because if they do they might get deported. This gives them a massive negotiating advantage since employers can agree whatever contract they like with them and expect them to stick to it.
