I had mild fears after the first 6 hours very lost in wilderness, and I am no avid hiker, just a thrill seeker.
I TOO WAS LOST for 9 hours...
...in federal land dense tall bushes and grasses and only deer paths that never went straight.
At some point before it got too dark, I decided to just only travel on downward slopes , ever lower and lower, no matter what and keep going until I encountered a road or bridge or telephone pole.
It sucked. I had no phone on me, no map, no GPS. I thought I was a know-iti-all... but when you cannot ever see because of underbrush and forest... its all no fun at all. So many things grow 7 feet tall or more. I did scratch myself trying to partly climb trees for a peek now and then, but all you see are other trees.
I think i do stupid stuff alone like that too often.
I also had other thrilling memories being risky lightly caving, being risky on old logging roads by vehicle, urban spelunking, and being risky in general while alone.
Go buy a compass and learn to land nav.
Did you take video of it for social media? That's the only true way of justifying your existence for living. Here take a 👍on me.
you should take a camera, no cell, and hike into center of one of these monsters :

... just dont break your ankle on a rock-slip, or forget two cans of bear spray
Okay... I did that shit when I was 8 (grew up in Wyoming) and have done it pretty regularly in the following several decades. Christ, we used to use this book to find places to get away from people (in Wyoming, in the 80's ~ think we were still more populated than Alaska then...): https://openlibrary.org/books/OL2231518M/8_000_miles_of_dirt
Wife and I are taking a trip to Montana soon and her co-workers were aghast at the idea she'd be without cell service. And how would she deal with problems? Um, personal responsibility? Not like this is our first time doing this kind of rodeo, not like we're clueless to the risks, or unprepared for them. But that stuck me as an insight to modern youth (lets put that as ~35 and under, knowing there are some outlying idiots older than that and wisdom beneath that) that they don't understand personal accountability. They think reaching out with a cell phone is being responsible for ones self. sighs
Can hardly fucking wait to spend a week at our favorite secluded spot and detox from humanity. Last time we saw 1 person in a weeks time, and they just drove on by (USFS truck).
Why? Are you an adrenaline junkie? You should fix your diet to balance your hormones
Or maybe you should fix your diet to be less of a pussy.
You should grow some brain cells and be less susceptible to media manipulation
Wait is this a thing? I’m an adrenaline junky myself, just figured it was how I am, didn’t know diet had anything to do with it.
Yes, definitely a thing. Diet plays a huge part in hormone regulation and behaviour modulation
Omg you sound like my old Jew neighbor broad from Brooklyn.
You sure it wasn’t your mother?
You should watch that guy Les Stroud, I think that's his name. He had a show years back that taught survivor techniques. Not sure if they are actually useful.
