A conviction actually requires 2 things, that Chauvins action significantly added to the cause of death AND that the actions that he did take are illegal.
Example: you are lawfully driving down the street and some guy jumps in front of your car and dies. You most certainly killed the guy but since you were acting lawfully at the time you could not be convicted of even manslaughter or negligent homicide.
On the face of it Chauvin should walk but with the jury commuting home from the court through riots the last few days who knows.
