LinkedIn belongs to Microsoft who is run by a diversity hire. No wonder why their security is so shitty.

Couldn't this also be a cover for ideologically driven dump of user data to coalate against gabs/minds/reddit/etc leaks and userbases?

This is scraping. Not hacking. Scraping is legal.

By the way courts have ruled that website scrapping is not only legal but that websites can't prohibit it.

It's not the same as having databases not available to the public that are hacked or stolen.

If you post something on to public website like LinkedIn you are sharing it with the world.

This just puts it in a more convenient form.
