Funny that "the safest way to travel" TM is about to change. Well gallows humor anyway.
Then again, could be a lot of faith in the autopilots. Because that worked out so well for the 737 Max.
The autopilot of the 747 is capable of making majority of the flight.
You really only need the pilot in case of an emergency. Otherwise you could probably train a monkey to do the rest.
I'd like to wait for the next decade to see how airline flight risk goes up. Hopefully other airlines don't follow the trend; I'll explicitly avoid United, but I could see this spreading like the rest of the cancer.
Agreed, I've never been willing to fly on an airliner and after hearing about this.. I certainly don't intend to start now.
