In my very early years, blacks were cruelly disparaged (1960s). One of the ways they were "put in their place" was to call them "boy" or "nigger." In that they had almost no rights, these words rubbed the gov'ts institutionalized daily humiliation into their growing wounds. It would be like coming up with a name to mock a child who had been sex-trafficked.
Blacks were different then. They were in a position that young people 60 years later cannot fathom. So, that word elicits all kinds of horrible thoughts and feelings from my life experience, and I'd have to be enraged to use it.

I'm a teacher, and yes they do learn. Maybe your lack of empathy is a weakness? I'd say it's a flaw as would most non-sociopathic people. In fact, a lack of empathy is the defining diagnosis for sociopaths, which is a mental disorder. I'd say mental disease is a problem.

I'm in the last part of life. I've fought for many things, but I won't fight for racism even when it's pushed by blacks/gov/media. I do think whites should have as many groups as any other race does. If they can put their race in their name then so can whites, otherwise nobody gets to use their race for grouping.
Tilting the balance the other way won't work. There are too many men in this country who will fight against it, I just don't see them in the city much. Makes me forget.
Also I live in the South and have all my life. People tell me blacks are different up north. They are more militant. We have some ghetto blacks too, but in isolated areas. Most blacks are ordinary people around here.
