That's one of the biggest loads of horse manure that I've heard.

Let's break this down:

  • Reported by CNN ... fits their narrative so they won't question the agenda of the source. Strike 1.
  • A tourism industry official ... translation: CEO of a hotel industry lobby group, likely with a career on the rocks looking for someone to blame. And, a Republican governor makes a nice target. Strike 2.
  • And onto the numbers .... "8000 hotel nights lost " ... @ $125 / night, that's $1M gross. Assuming that 50% stay for 2 nights and 50% stay for 1 night, and 50% are double occupancy rooms. @ 8K hotel nights, they are suggesting that only ~7K of the people going to the game would be from out of town. So, all other attendees would be local, which doesn't account for tourism if we are being honest. (Same people would spend their $$ in the local economy either way.) So ... 7K people ... $125 for plane tickets (only 1 way gets local credit) + $200 for food and other attractions, plus $125/person at the game ... another $3M. So $4M lost in the local economy from out side tourists ... 4% ... whole lot less impressive than $100M. Exaggerate much? Strike 3.

Seems like the same kinda math that gets you to 6,000,000. Go figure.

I am not sure, but maybe, just maybe they are all liars. Or maybe just 6 million of them are liars.
