He's still got a right to bail. Judge specifically said he's denying bail because the suspect exercised his 1st amendment rights, along with the 2nd amendment rights he lost. Sucks that he gave them an excuse, but he's still being treated unfairly.
The story we were told about the problem being him taking a gun rights class years back does sound like bullshit though. it does make you wonder why they sort of backdated the weapons charge, however. Worthless news doesn't say what new charges are. I would contribute towards a fund for this guy's lawyer.
