Are they wrong? China is already at war with the US on many levels.

My evidence is that the PRC have always expanded until they meet resistance they can't overcome, and even then they've only backed down after taking a massive hit.
Currently they are taking over whole islands, mineral resoures and natural resources in the south china sea. If the US does not begin defending it's allies (such as Taiwan and the Philippines) then China will continue expanding until it begins taking actual US soil.
Things have gotten so bad I'd argue it's in US interests to ally with Vietnam as a check against Chinese expansion.
Yeah but I think we might be overextended and a fight now will make us weaker in the medium-long run.
I think we need to take small losses now to avoid huge losses later.
