What a major fuckass. Now I feel kinda bad... ha. Pops does electrical, just a wrench from the home cabinet. Ha I used to go on a semi-joking tirade at work when something from my set of (clearly labeled) tools went missing. “Funny thing when I can’t my tools, is then I have to spend time looking for my tools, when I ought to be using my tools...” The kids were equally entertained and annoyed, so they stopped grabbing my shit ahah.
Over the years I've developed a rather new approach to loaning tools. I don't. My tools are my tools and if you want tools like my tools you buy tools like my tools. Or pay me to use my tools which is what they are for.
Last time I loaned my socket set to a friend who needed the 3/4 to change his oil. He brings it back and the 3/4 is missing. He claims he didn't use the 3/4 socket because his truck is metric so it's not his fault it was missing. Obviously he was smart enough to never ask to use my tools again.
