Yeah, rule of thumb: the mother always gets the benefit of doubt from the court. "Tender years doctrine" and such ... makes it unlikely for a judge to separate a mother from a child unless, (a) there is absolute proof of abuse (and drugs) or (b) the judge is being straight up bought off.
If you ever see a man get custody of the children in court, that means that mother is 100% an abuser and a danger to the children.
(Doesn't mean the father isn't a scumbag. Just saying ... mothers have to screw up _really_ bad to lose custody to the father.)
Yeah call me heartless but I'm not convinced that the mother isn't an unfit parent. I don't believe for a second that a court in Montana of all places is just going to grant the father full custody without the mother being a complete train wreck.
But what the fuck? No third option? Grandparents? Aunts? Cousins? A foster parent that won't touch her?

Seems like the poor 14 year old girl got dealt with a bad hand- a pair of shithead parents. A mother who conceived a child with an abusive, explosively temperamental pedophile- the mother makes bad decisions. She's a pothead, and she continues to use pot even knowing there are drug tests as a possibility for her. The stakes of her failing the drug test- she loses her daughter to the monstrous pedo father. So does she stop smoking pot? NO!! She doesn't care enough about her daughter to put the fucking bong down for a month. She also got the girl's nose pierced- the mother is a shithead.
And the father is a straight up abusive pedophile. The only thing standing in his way of doing w/e he wants to his 14 year old daughter was the mother- but she just had to get high. She just had to feel goofy for a few hours. I hope it was worth it. I hope that she really thought about the fond memories she made hitting that bong while she was sitting in jail for two days.
This whole story is a tragedy, and that poor girl is a victim of both of her parents. Her father is far more overt in his terrible nature, but the mother's generally poor decision making is just as dangerous for her child.

From personal experience, no. No always. The court favors the military. HEAVILY. They will even fabricate accounts in the child's name to protect the father.
