I mentioned this to someone yesterday and he replied, "Yeah, it's because of all the mask wearing! The flu is weaker than covid so it can't handle masks."
Wish I knew exactly where the weak points of this argument are...
1.) "Weakness" is a vague term. The effectiveness of the mask is determined by the size of the virus. It either passes through or not. Its easy to find out.
2.) If the masks beat the flu then why haven't we always been wearing the masks? The flu kills tens of thousands every year including lots of kids which Covid does not kill. Are those people expendable?

Not quite. Im not an expert on this shit but my understanding is that the mask’s ability to filter it dependant on the size of the particle carrying the virus, which is usually a tiny aerosolized piece of saliva or mucus that may contain thousands of virions of covid or flu.
Flimsy surgical masks which are not fitted are blocking larger blobs of spit that typically have a lot of virus but quickly fall and settle on surfaces. Tinier particles of saliva can remain airborn for hours and may easily pass through the mask or leak in or out from the sides.
N 95 masks are probably much more effective, but then why arent we wearing goggles too? Seems like a no brainer if it can get in you mouth it can get in your eyes.
Why are we allowing wealthy people unlimited travel between countries and regions but regular people cant even have normal funerals?
Public restrooms with turbo flush toilets with no covers are probably spreading alot of this disease. Why isnt anyone doing anything about that problem?
The measures are so arbitrary. It makes no sense.
Trump could have forced everyone in the country to take prophylactic Hydroxychloroquine, it would have worked and ended the epidemic. But liberals would have howled their heads off that it was a racist medicine. There is no logic to their arguments.
Once again, here to say IVERMECTIN has been proven to be the most effective, cheapest, and safest CURE and at about 1 dose a month it has been proven to be as effective as any vaccine as a prophylactic.
Ivermectin: in use for 50 years, used on millions, never killed a human, low dose prophylaxis prevents ~90% of covid infections as well as the flu
Pfizer vax: in use 2 months, ~90% of covid infections, killed at least a thousand people
Good stuff. I'll be seeing this guy again, so we'll see how receptive he is. My fear is that the rebuttal to (2) is something along the lines of, "well we will wear masks from now on!"

The weak point of the mask argument is that the flu vanished everywhere, for example in California with mandatory masks and a closed economy, and in Florida without mandatory masks and an open economy.

Tell him it's ridiculous to think one respiratory virus is weaker than another. Tell him the most obvious and likely answer is that all flu deaths are being counted as Covid.
