There are 2 ways to do the stats on clinical trials, one is "intent to treat" and the other is "per protocol". "intent to treat" preserves the original randomization and analyzes the participants as if they are still in that category, no matter what happens "per protocol" means you can change things around if shit doesn't go your way I'm guessing they did "per protocol" so they didn't have to include those 3,500 women that got removed
Oooh those are two new terms for me! In case it wasn't clear, I was joking based on reading other vaccine studies which are apparently all "per protocol"
