The parents were negligent. They let their kid play in the snow, I'm guessing without any winter clothes, which probably was the source of the alleged hypothermia which they clearly know nothing about. Instead of making sure he was ok after being outside in freezing temps, they let him go off to bed because he was "tired from a big day playing outside"... except he was tired because of the onset of hypothermia. Change my mind.
