We dont. If not purely for the reason of personal standards then because to use such a tactic is in a sense to claim it has value. Thus claiming the endless nonsense that others perform is justified when they use the same tactic. What one should do is inform people of the tactic, the desire to control and manipulate through it, and if you want mock it and those who use it. Alternatively if you really want to use the tactic then do so in a way that devalues its potency while bringing attention to its existence. A bit like what people have done with the whole "Think of the children!" bit. Really this percent of a percent thing can be seen as just another form of the think of the children justification. Unless done in a mocking manner using it is unlikely to have any good ultimate end results unless one simply wants to add to the destruction and chaos in the world until it collapses and can be rebuilt. Thats an unlikely event though.
