Ironically, that might be the easiest and quickest place to steal a gun.
How often/many ranges have you been to? How do people tend to walk in/out of them? Loaded up, often with a backpack, gun cases, etc. But all of their weapons have to be put away, or at the very least unloaded with the breach open and bolt locked- basically you're least likely to be able to use a weapon in this state. Do you have time to unzip a bag, pull out a weapon, load it, clear the range flag and put one in the pipe before you get stabbed 20+ times if you were just bum rushed?
Something to think about. You'll always hear about being in danger in "transitional spaces", like walking from your car into a store, as being the areas you'll most likely encounter an attack. I think this applies even more to a gun range, because most people feel safe there- "why should I worry, I have 10 friends inside who are crack shots" kind of attitude.
