I'm gonna go with mine, considering the flu deaths were well understood and not an issue prior. Likewise it explains why flu deaths dropped and 'covid' deaths increased.
Yours is basically a semantic issue thats just muddying the waters and could very well be used to push "covid is real but flu isnt! We had flu shots for a flu that wasnt real or actually deadly, so why is everyone against vaccinations for a disease that is?"
