Sweden has 1,195 deaths per million. Only 23% of Swedes report wearing a mask "often" or "always" in public.
The US has 90+% reporting "often" or "always" wearing a mask in public. Yet deaths per million in the US are higher than Sweden, at 1,430.
Officials say the majority of reported fatalities were in elderly people or people with underlying illness.
